Week of 05/13/2012
What we taught:
Jacob had 12 sons. He favored his youngest son, Joseph, because he had Joseph at an old age. This
doesn't mean that Jacob disliked his other sons. One day Jacob gave Joseph a colorful coat. His brothers
were jealous of his coat and that their father favored him. They were jealous of Joseph enough to plan to
kill him. Joseph's brother could have chose to love him and appreciate his coat.
Jealousy is not a good thing. Jealousy may lead to anger and more fighting. Let us start loving and
appreciating others instead of being jealous. We should count our blessings and what God has given us.
Treat people who have more than you the same way you want to be treated.

What we taught:
The Good Samaritan:
One day someone had asked Jesus, "who is my neighbor?
Jesus answered him with a story.
This parable (good story) was told by Jesus to the people.
The Jews and the Samaritans hated each other.
One day, there were robbers who robbed and beat up a Jewish man leaving him half-dead on the road. A
priest came by, saw him, and went on his way. Then a Levite came next, saw him, and also went on his
way. Afterwards a Samaritan man came by and saw the hurt man on the road. He took pity on the man.The
Samaritan bandaged the man and took him to an inn and paid the innkeeper for all the man's treatments
and needs.
From this story, Jesus asked, "Which of the men who saw the wounded man was a good neighbor?"
His followers answered, " The one who helped the man."
The Good Samaritan help the wounded man who might have been a Jew. The Samaritan might have
been the wounded man's enemy. Instead the Samaritan helped the hurt man.
Jesus has told us that we should love our neighbors and even to love our enemies.
Memory Verse:
Matthew 5:7
"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy."

What we taught:
God had promised that He was going to make Abraham's family into a nation. Abraham and Lot had
journeyed to the Promised Land. They wanted to find pastures for their cattle and animals.
Their servants began to fight for the best land. Abraham was troubled by this. Abraham decided he could
share his love for both of them by sharing his land. Abraham let Lot choose first. Lot chose what pleased
his eyes, he chose the best land but the people around that place were bad. Lot didn't think about that.
Abraham was a kind and caring man. He didn't want to hurt others. Abraham did not say that Lot deserved
it but instead prayed to God to save him from trouble. We should follow Abraham's example to care for
others and share God's love.
Memory Verse:
Acts 4:32
All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.

What we taught:
We can worship together as families and devote ourselves to God. Paul was a great missionary and
wanted other people to help him in serving God. Paul met a young man named Timothy on one of his
travels. Paul loved Timothy, their relationship was like a father and son. Paul would send Timothy in his
place to do missionary work. Timothy was a faithful man and recieved his faith from his mother, Eunice.
Paul wrote 2 letters to Timothy and they are in the New Testament. Timothy was one of the great
evangelists who accompanied Paul. One of the most important things families can do is help others
know about Jesus.
Memory Verse:
2 Timothy 1:14
"Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you-guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who
lives in us."

What we taught:
The Israelites were disobedient to God. Therefore God punished them by allowing their enemy,
the Midianites to cause trouble for 7 years. The enemy would kill all the animals and destroy their crops.
Finally the Israelites cried out to God for help.
Gideon was a farmer, he was afraid of the Midianites.
The angel of the Lord appeared before him and encouraged him to fight.
He then gained strength from God and realized that God was with him that he didn't have to fear.
God to rescue his people by sending Gideon to defeat the Midianites.
Sometime we are afraid, shy, and may not want to do things but we have to remember that with God
everything is possible. He is our strength.
Memory Verse:
"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,"Whom shall I send? And who will go for
us?" And I said, "Here I am. Send me!" Isaiah 6:8

Daniel- the Prayer Warrior:
1. Long ago, Israelites were taken to Bablyon from Jerusalem. King Darius ruled Bablyon. He picked few men to help him rule the country. One of the men was Daniel. He was faithful to God. King Darius put Danel in charge of one area. He was a good ruler. Because of that Daniel made enemies. The enemies knew that Daniel had faith in God. Daniel prayed three time a day, so his enemies had a plan to get him into trouble. The enemies went to the King and proclaimed that everyone should worship him for thirty days and no one else. If there was anyone who disobeyed, they would be thrown into the lion's den. Daniel continued to pray to God and the enemies reported him to the King. The King was sad because he liked Daniel and had to put him in the lion's dens. It was the law. King Darius said to Daniel, "May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you." The mouth of the den was closed and the king sealed it. Early in the morning, King Dariusrushed to the lion's den. When the stone was removed, the king was happy for Daniel was alive. Daniel told the king, "My God sent His angels, and He shut the mouths of the lions." King Darius told his people and commanded them to worship the God of Daniel.

Faith in the Midst of Suffering:
There was a man named Job who lived in the land of Uz. He was faithful to God. He did not do anything evil in the sight of God. He was blameless. Job was a wealthy man and had lots of sheep, cattle, and donkeys. He also had 7 sons and 3 daughters and many servants.
One day the angels had gone to see God and with them Satan went. Satan wanted to test Job. Satan told God that if Job would lose all his wealth he would blame God. So God allowed Satan to test Job.
Job's servants brought messages of bad news. The cattle were taken away by enemies, the sheep and almost all of the servants were destroyed in a fire, and most terribly Job's children were dead.
Through this Job answered, "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; May the name of the Lord be praised." Job did not sin by blaming God.
At some time Job was covered with sores. It was painful. Job scraped his body with broken pottery as he sat in ashes. Job's wife told him to curse God. Job told her that it was wrong to complain when suffering. Job's friends went to see him and comfort him. During the time they were with Job, they said things that were not right about God. God became angry and told them to ask Job to sacrifice a burnt offering and pray for their forgiveness. Job did exactly that and God accepted his prayer. The Lord blessed Job with wealth more than the first time and gave him children. Sometimes we have problems in our lives but like Job we should depend and have faith in God. God will give us the strength to face the problems.
Memory Verse:
Psalms 120:1 "I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me."

What students learned:
The Hardened Heart of Pharaoh:
Pharaoh was the ruler of Egypt, he treated the Israelites (God's people) as slaves. The Israelites were praying to God for help. God asked Moses and Aaron to go to Pharaoh but Pharaoh did not let them go. So God told Moses and Aaron to do miracles. Aaron put out his staff and the staff turned into a snake. The Egyptian Magicians did the same but Aaron's snake swallowed up their snake. Pharaoh still didn't let the people go. God sent 10 plagues:
1.The Nile River turned into blood
2.Large number of frogs filled the Egyptian homes
3.Lice came and covered the people
4. Flies filled the land
5.Disease on the cattle
6.Boils (big sores) on the people and animals
7.Hailstorm killed animals, people, and crops
8.Locusts appeared and ate all the plants
9.Darkness during daytime
10. Firstborns of animals and people were killed (this was the worst of the plagues)
God protected the Israelites against the plagues. He told them to mark their houses with the blood of the lamb. They were safe. This was celebrated as the Passover. The firstborn of the Pharaoh died and finally Pharaoh let God's people go.
Memory Verse:
Job 1:21
"The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised."

Week of 03/04/2012
What students learned:
1. Jesus Christ says that all his followers are in one church. There are all different kinds of churches with different languages. We are all part of the same body. All the churches give glory to God. The apostle Paul visited a church in Macadonia, Greece. He noticed good things about the church. Although the members were not rich, they were very good at giving. They saved money and collected money to help other churches. They worked together as one group of Christians. St. Paul was the founder of the early churches in Europe. He wrote about it in his second letter to the Corinthians.
2. All people sin. Parents, teachers, and elders give advice so that we can avoid doing the wrong and do good. God gave his only Son to die on the cross for our sins. This act of love showed that He would always forgive us of our wrongdoings. Christ forgives us so we must forgive others too. We must also ask God to forgive our sins. We are all imperfect and we all need forgiveness. Jesus is Perfect. We should try to be perfect like Jesus.
Memory Verse:
Matthew 6:14
For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."

as he gave his only Son to take our sins away.
2. After three days, Jesus rose from the dead.
The day of the Pentecost, The disciples gather at John Mark's house (on the roof). There

Week of 02/12/2012
What students learned:
1. There were 10 lepers that went to see Jesus to heal them. Jesus sent them to a
priest. When they got there they were healed but only one of the 10 men went back to
thank Jesus.
2. There were 10 young women who each had an oil lamp. 5 of them brought extra oil
while the other 5 did not. They were waiting for the bridegroom to come. The bridegroom
came at an unexpected time so the 5 that were not prepared were not accepted. When
the second-coming of our Lord occurs-only the ones who are prepared in Christ will be
